The pioneering design includes the three victorious Vs of the Commonwealth Sport logo – known collectively as the celebration mark – and combines them with distinctive elements designed for the 2026 edition of the Commonwealth Games.

Before Glasgow became the newest host, the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) had already decided to make the integrated logo idea central to all future Games. 2026 is the inaugural year for this design concept which is set to become a Commonwealth Games tradition.

Sue McGregor, Director of Marketing and Communications for CGF, said:
“To communicate the spirit of the wider Commonwealth Sport Movement while acknowledging the central role of the Games, we have introduced a new concept to our visual identity.

“Each edition of the Games will integrate the celebration mark into its own logo. The essence and vision of each individual Games will be combined with the enduring values and nature of the whole movement, creating a shared identity that fosters unity, recognition and impact.”

A mark of symbolism
The celebration mark in the Commonwealth Sport logo captures the triumphant gestures of victorious athletes, speaking of the passion and dedication that drive the movement. The three coloured V shapes suggest the way in which the Commonwealth continents, and the rich diversity of their cultures, come together through the spirit of sport.

The V shapes stem from three points, deliberately reflecting the three values of the Commonwealth Sport movement – Equality, Humanity and Destiny. Six arms rise from these foundation points, in recognition of the Commonwealth regions of Africa, Asia, Americas, Caribbean, Europe and Oceania.

McGregor said: “Our identity reflects the whole Commonwealth Sport Movement. We are so much more than the extraordinary, captivating festivals of sport which are the Commonwealth Games. Every day, through our development programmes, we are working to transform lives and unite the Commonwealth through sport.”

Looking to the future
The celebration mark was designed by award-winning brand agency rbl. Executive Creative Director Adam Concar said:
“The identity respects the heritage of the organisation while opening it up to craft an image that is contemporary and uplifting, centred on a logomark that echoes the instinctive action of athletes as they celebrate their success. In this way we represent both athletes joined together in the moment and the Commonwealth coming together as one.

“This new identity is confident and graphic, capable of speaking the language of contemporary sport and standing out in the field of play.”

Although the integrated logo concept was determined before Glasgow became the 2026 host, the union is fitting. Branded as a progressive Games due to its lighter footprint – an approach which may be a model for future competitions – Glasgow 2026 is an appropriate bearer of the pioneering logo design.
