The Role
We have a unique and exciting opportunity available to join the team as Head of Security & Event Safety. This role will place you at the heart of the action, working alongside experts to deliver a global event that sets the new standard for major sporting celebrations. You’ll gain hands-on experience and contribute to creating a world-class Games.
The Head of Security & Event Safety is a senior appointment, leading the Organising Company’s (OC) Security, Safety & Medical Functional Area. The postholder will be responsible for the development and management of the strategic and tactical plans and oversight of all operational planning for all Security, Safety & Medical matters for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Job Summary:
As Head of Security & Event Safety for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, you’ll play a critical leadership role in creating and delivering a safe, secure, and world-class event experience.
Working at the heart of the Operations Division and reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you’ll collaborate with senior leadership, Commonwealth Sport (CS), Police Scotland, local authorities, emergency services, Event Delivery Partners, and Venue Operators. Your focus will be on developing integrated safety strategies and operational plans that uphold Games-wide security principles across all venues and event phases.
With proven experience in major multi-venue events, you’ll bring the expertise and leadership needed to align complex stakeholder plans and deliver excellence in a high-profile, fast-paced environment. You'll drive integration across partner plans, manage risks, and oversee incident response and readiness programmes — all to deliver a Games of excellence for athletes, spectators, and the global community.

Key Skills and Experience:
Essential:
- Demonstrable experience in senior security or safety management roles, ideally within a large-scale, multi-venue event environment.
- Track record in delivering a comprehensive security programme involving multiple stakeholders and suppliers and the ability to build trusted relationships with internal and external partners
- Strong operational understanding of public safety and crowd management with a Formal Qualification in Crowd Safety Management at Level 4 or 5
- Solid working knowledge of relevant legislation and licensing frameworks
- An understanding of the security ecosystem, including national security agencies, key contractors and suppliers
- Expertise in crisis management, emergency planning, incident response and risk management
- Experience in operating within command structures and high-profile event delivery
- Proven leadership skills, with experience managing large, dynamic teams in high-pressure environments inclusive of advising senior leadership and strategic input to executive-level stakeholders
- Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills
- Familiarity with project management tools and processes, with the ability to develop and manage timelines
Desirable:
- Formal qualification in CT Risk Management
- NEBOSH, CIMOSH qualifications
